WHY THE PATRONAGE TRIP BY NORTH EASTERN MPs TO STATE HOUSE WAS A TOTAL FAIL. By Ahmed sheikh Buba
|
For the last eleven months the political wind of the country was wavering in the name of democratic changes to take place on the referendum voting on the 21st of November. Avery important date it will be in the Kenyan political history. Moreover, in the State House Nairobi and the other State Houses{Nakuru, Mombasa} politicians and other elected leaders were visiting the President to show support for the yes camp as well as giving the President memorandum of development (petition) for their support.
Thanks to this paper the standard-online that keeps me up to date with news back home, which every night before the university library is closed by mid-night I browse it through the net. Early last week a delegation from NEP lead by Hons Mohamed Abdi, Hussein maalim, Yusuf Haji, Shabaan Issak, Sheikh Dahir and Abdurrahman Olow visited the President at State House Nairobi. The delegation promised the President NEP will vote YES but asked the President for the following development rights. 1. That the university entry points for students from NEP should be lowered Compared to the national standard. 2. That three more districts to be created for the province 3. That three more constituencies to be created in the province. For his part his Excellency the President appreciated their support for NDIZI but decline to rubber stamp their demands. Moreover, he was short of saying we will have pumpavus in the universities when we lower the entry points for NEP students. However, the President promised to build an international airport at Wajir. Hon MPs from NEP, I understand every politician switches to clichs at times like this when power is about ebbing away, but you settled for broad agreements than the obvious. The demography demands for a bigger airport at Wajir with big empty hangers is basically a comparative non-advantage for us from NEP, while our roads are pathetic non-tarmac, our schools and hospitals are degrading below national standards and above all too many young people are unemployed with no income. Hon MPs from NEP, I term your visit to the state house as a self interest which always drives politicians like you but not for the interest of your electorates. Most of you have no clear development policies and no sense of political directions. Hon MPs, you are prepared to make mistakes of trying to be trapped into campaign promises that will make the voters from NEP ridiculous in post referendum era. I will support my statements with the following events. When Hon Kombo and his delegation were promised more districts and a constituency, Hon Nyachae came out laughing from state house, Hon MPs from Turkana will be celebrating soon for the new district and constituency, the mjikenda MPs team from the coast are playing the cards well. Mama and her boys from ukambani are victories with their share, what about us from NEP?? Hon MPs from NEP, what are your political existences if one man voice like Hon Ndile can get ticked all his demands from state house, liberate the settlers from kibwezi, could you not even bring the Lands minister Hon kimunya to issue title deeds for your people?? I believe you never explain to the President why the public from Garissa, Ijara,Wajir and Mandera were angry with yes team. This was because we from NEP were marginalised since independence, we are not sure if this government means what they say and we are not sure there is a policy commitment to all the road side promise by Politicians. We knew the banana team were unwelcome and unpleasant visitors. Hon MPs from NEP, in politics making the arguments require an acknowledgement at the present time not the future as the past cannot be reclaimed. Remember what happened to MoU between NARC and LDP, it is as dead as my grand father, those are promises you got when you visited State House recently. Hon MPs from NEP, you seem that you are rushing on sceptical decisions of wide range political un-reasoning just to give a single individuals a bit of pride, this is not the message we expect from you in the 21st century politics. To my fellow citizens from NEP, your vote is important as it will shape your destiny for the rest of your life. Please be wise and vote at your will, we can send a powerful message to the rest of Kenyans if vote as a bloc and purposely for interest in the distribution of the national cake. Don't listen to political Pickering of our Hon MPs. For sure there is allot of unease stewing with the politics of NEP, hopefully there are seats for grabs come by thee 2007.
For me the orange renaissance is my pride. Thank you.
