 ONLF is Doomed to Fail. By Abdullahi Khalif-Gariile

The lingering greedy, exclusiveness and ignorance within ONLF members has created a leadership lacuna, and isolation to this party, a void that none of its current members can fill. Hence, while the scramble for power within the party is reverberating, ONLF is doomed to fail.
One reason for this, as revealed from my intensive fact-findings, is that the party leadership is inept and not in touched with reality. The party�s executive committee consists 99.9 percent of one sub-clan. Many may believe that ONLF�s executive committee members are drawn from the Ogaden clan, which is the majority of the Somali inhabited region of Ogadenia. However, the fact is otherwise, ONLF is not all-inclusive political entity, and its members are not fairly drawn from neither all Somalis in the region nor all Ogaden sub-clans.
If this is the case, then why ONLF members should hide under the guise of justice, when they actually are themselves the forces of injustices? Look at the way this party is formed, the president, the cabinet, the executive committee, and the parliament. ONLF cannot represent the entire region of Ogadenia and its people, period! This party has reduced itself to be one family party and should never claim to be the majority�s party.
It is unfortunate that people in the Ogaden region has yet to have the political luxury (freedom) to form a system that represents all of them fairly, be within the regional state or the ONLF. What is unfolding in Ogadenia over the years is by no means an accident of history. It is a carefully crafted, cynical strategy conceived by a few power-hungry whose backs are pressed against the wall of time. It is now clear to me that if the masterminds succeeded, it would have turned Ogadenia into unprecedented civil war that might cause larger number of deaths and displacements than the one reported in Rwanda.
The roots of Ogendenia�s ever lingering problems lie in the fact that a certain segment of the population (those executive committee members of ONLF are drawn from) blindly considers itself endowed with divine authority and heavenly anointed to govern the silent people in the region. Don't let anyone fool you or romanticize this tragic fact of our history. Anything short of this dogma is merely to sugarcoat the issues and the rest is pure political nonsense.
Because ONLF is not all-inclusive political party, it cannot prove its legitimacy or its full support of the majority in Ogadenia. Thus it cannot persuade any country, expect Eritrea and its dictator, Issaias Afewerki, to have their cause supported. Due to this fact, ONLF will remain to be just a name.
