Somalia; A Change Of Changes. By Ahmed A/Kadir (Shiine)
|
With the help of the Ethiopian army, the Somali transitional government won the war against the United Islamic Courts.
The damage is much less than expected, phobia seems reducing, but little tension still exists, and the certainty of another confrontation is not to the end. Since the fall of the last central government in early 1991, filling the vacuum was the only aspiration that put the country into a madness disorder, that caused the death of thousands of Somali innocents. The power was rapidly shifting from the hands of one group to another, and the final face of the subsequent ruling body was not easy to speculate. Unlike any other society in this world, where principles of ideology are the major links of any group, in Somalia tribalism is the actual bond for almost all groups, and without taking enough time to make a fair judgment, whoever you think is good, someone is instantly condemning and is already tired of him. On the other side, lacking the required leadership skills, the Somali politicians are mostly ignoring the sensitivity of the public they want to lead. The combination of the two is the major factor that always creates the massive incompatibility. Same as what the transitional government did now, war was the only way to power, and whoever has the bigger muscle is always the legitimate one.
Having their own goal of building an Islamic nation, with the Sharea constitution, the United Islamic Courts was one of those groups who already tried to take over, but failed to succeed. Whether Socialist, Islamist or Capitalist having the ambition and trying to rule is not really an offense.
Discriminating, abusing, harassing and trying to Put them under a criminal code, will never help solving the long standing Somali problem, but may contribute the formation of another unnecessary political minefields, and can be translated as an early dictatorship with no freedom of political diversity. Leaving them alone, and treating them equally like any other normal citizen will definitely be the best way to face the future. Reaching the military goals and territorial control is not the issue, but keeping it and gaining the public support is the most essential.
Unless the Transitional Government become a receptive one, fully understand the venerable Somali tradition including the verbal humiliations and respect the freedom rights of the entire Somali population, this will certainly be another fruitless change of changes that just came to pass.
