Godey: Integrated Dev't Project Office executes 19mln birr food security works in Somali State
The West Gode Integrated Development Project Coordination Office disclosed that it has executed development activities aimed at ensuring the food security of 700 households resettlers in Gode Zone of Somali State with 19 million birr last budget year.
Office General Manager, Abdulaziz Mohammed Layli, told WIC that the development works included the construction of water reservoirs, installation of pipelines and over 80 public fountains.
Besides, basic alternative education centers, vet clinics, farmers training centers, nurseries and health posts have also gone operational. The resettelrs would become food self sufficient after two years, he added.
Some 80 percent of the irrigation work meant to consolidate agriculture through developing more than 2,200 hectares of land has been finalized, according to Abdulaziz who added that the resettlers were also organized under associations so that they could engage in animal rearing.
Some 1,000 hectares of land is readied to resettle 500 additional households this Ethiopian year, the General Manager disclosed.
Some 45 million birr was earmarked for the execution of the resettlement program, he further indicated.
The budget would be utilized for the construction of 500 residential houses,10 basic alternative education centers, health centers, maintenance of small-scale irrigation canals, among others, it was learnt.
