Addis Ababa: Humanitarian assistances under distribution in Somali region: DPPA
Humanitarian assistances have effectively been distributed in different parts of the Somali State at present, Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency (DPPA) said.
Agency Director General, Semon Mechale held discussion on Saturday with a US delegation led by Director of U.S Foreign Assistance and USAID Administrator, Henrietta H. Fore.
During the discussion, Semon said though there are challenges in the transportation and distribution of the relief assistances, the Ethiopian government in collaboration with donors has been exerting utmost efforts toward speeding up distribution of assistances in the region.
More than 91,000 quintals of grain was transported to the area within three weeks owing to the existence of peace and stability in the region, he said.
The defense forces have been contributing a lot toward the transportation and distribution of the humanitarian assistances, the said director general said.
Henrietta H. Fore on her part said the US government would continue providing humanitarian assistances to beneficiaries in the region.
She said she came to Ethiopia to get firsthand information about the situation in the region, discuss problems encountered in the delivery of assistance, and to confer on ways as to how to distribute humanitarian assistances, a statement sent to ENA on Sunday said.
