President Kibaki's new-look Cabinet has been dealt a big blow after three ministers and 16 assistants rejected Cabinet appointments.
The ministers include Charity Ngilu (Health), Musikari Kombo (Local Government) and Orwa Ojodeh (Environment and Natural Resources).
Kombo, who is Ford Kenya chairman, announced Thursday that the party MPs would not take up the appointments. He spoke after an urgent National Executive Council-cum-Parliamentary Group meeting at Ford Kenya headquarters in Nairobi. He had been retained as Local Government Minister.
Ford Kenya, which is a partner in the National Rainbow Coalition (Narc), accused the President of dishonesty and " short-changing the party".
The assistant ministers who have so far rejected appointments include Joseph Nkaissery, Samuel Moroto, David Sudi, Peter Odoyo, William Boit, David Were, Mwangi Kiunjuri, Paul Sang, Zaddock Syongo, Soita Shitanda, Paul Sang, Noah Wekesa, John Munyes, Moses Wetangula, Joseph Nyaga, Stephen Ole Ntutu and Kivutha Kibwana.
Ngilu said she was unhappy with Kibakis line-up and asked him to go back to the drawing board and negotiate with all leaders. She accused the President of appointing the new Cabinet without consulting.
