Somali State executing over 39 million birr road projects
Jijjiga, December 15,2024 (WIC) � Roads construction and maintenance works have been underway in Somali State with an outlay of over 39 million birr this budget year, the State's Rural Roads Authority said.
Authority Head, Ahmed Areb Aden told WIC today that two bridges would be constructed and design study on two roads will be carried out with 34 million birr earmarked by the state government.
He said maintenance work would be undertaken on six roads with five million birr assistance obtained from the federal Roads Fund.
Ahmed said the 245 kilometers roads of East Eme-West Eme-Elkere-Cherati whose construction was pending for five years would be executed and efforts are underway to finalize the remaining 31 kilometers and construction of the Wabe Shebelle and Gode bridges within a year.
According to the Head, design studies for the 120 kilometers Cherati-Goro Bekekisa-Goro Damolle roads and the Dawa River bridge project have been awarded to contractors.
Maintenance work of 509 kilometers of the existing roads would be finalized until the end of the fiscal year, he added.
Upon completion the new roads would interlink Afdere ,Gode and Deghabour zones as well as with Oromia state.
