Minister calls for redoubled efforts to bring about socio-economic transformation in Somali State
The Minister of Federal Affairs has indicated the need for Government officials and professionals in the Somali State to step up efforts towards changing the lives of pastoralists for the better and to bring about fundamental socio-economic transformation.
In his opening address on Monday to a two-week Civil Service Reform training in this town of Jijjiga, capital of the Somali State, Siraji Fedesa said efforts geared towards the realization of democracy and good governance would greatly be instrumental in speeding up development.
Siraji called for dilligence on the part of officials at all levels of the State Government and professionals towards addressing the good governance and development needs and demands of the people. To implement this, he said, the officials and professionals need to internalize and act accordingly upon the Government's policies and strategies.
Chief of the State Government, Abdulahi Hassan on his part said the officials in the State and professionals were expected to discharge their duties and responsibilities efficiently by mobilizing the people for development as a requisite to extricating the pastoralist community from the grip of poverty.
More than 300 officials and professionals are in attendance at the training organized by the State Government in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Affairs.
Training topics include the significance of democratization and good governance as well as the objectives and essence of the civil service reform program, among other related issues.
The trainees will receive briefing on the Government's policy and strategy documents in addition to lessons on the foreign affairs and national security agenda.
