Bringing to justice perpetrators of violence guarantees democracy: Civil servants of Somali state
Jijjiga ,December 26,2005 (WIC) - Some civil servants in Somali state said bringing to justice the CUD elements who attempted to violently destroy the constitutional order of the country would ensure the security of citizens and the further building of the democratic system.
Speaker of the state Council, Ali Mohammed Kunaye told WIC that it is proper to bring to justice the party leaders and their supporters who tried to forcefully oust the legally constituted government and the constitution that answered the age old questions of the peoples of Ethiopia.
Health and Education bureau staffs, Dirye Umer and Mohammed Abdi also said making accountable those perpetrators of the illegal acts ensures the rule of law and the security of citizens.
The civil servants further commented that even if the political stance of the leaders of the party is anti-democratic and antagonizes the interest of the peoples of the country their views were tolerated and they were allowed to run in the elections without restrictions.
As they have nonetheless attempted to violently seize power by rallying behind them few of their supporters, they should be accountable to the loss of life and damage to property that followed.
Many members of opposition political parties who joined the regional councils and the parliament are peacefully reflecting their views,they noted, adding that the destructive ways of the CUD would have unfortunately put the country in jeopardy had it not been for the prompt move to swiftly control it.
