Somali state allocates over 12mln birr for emergency relief aid
Jijjiga, January 05,2025 (WIC)- The Somali state Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Bureau disclosed that the regional government has allocated 12.7 million birr for emergency relief aid to drought affected inhabitants of the region.
Bureau Deputy Head Abdulahi Mohammed told WIC today that the regional cabinet has this week deliberated on the seriousness of the drought and allocated 12,694,400 birr budget to be channeled through five pertinent bureaus.
According to him, the budget would be used for digging water wells, transporting potable water, preventing communicable diseases and for implementing school feeding schemes so as to prevent children from dropping out of schools.
He said the regional Water Resources, Mines and Energy, Health, Education as well as Animal, Crop and Natural Resources Development Bureaus under the coordination of the Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Bureau are undertaking collaborative activities to prevent problems that may occur in connection to the food insecurity.
Meanwhile, Abdulahi said the Federal DPPC has accepted the food aid request and has started transporting food supplies.
