Potable water projects under execution with 180mln birr in Somali state
Various potable projects have been under execution in Somali state with 180 million birr budget allotted by the regional government and non-governmental organizations, the state's Water ,Mines and Energy Bureau disclosed.
Bureau Head Abdi Fadir told WIC that the sinking of 45 water wells, provision of drinking water for five towns and the construction of three dams and rehabilitation of existing water wells would be carried out with the stated budget obtained from the state Food Security Bureau, World Bank and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Besides, he said design works on three big dams and studies on designs that would enable harnessing three rivers and on 52 underground water wells as well as capacity building of pertinent offices in woredas were also in pipeline.
Priority was given to water projects as the state has repeatedly been exposed to recurrent droughts,Abdi said.
The construction and maintenance of the deep water wells would be completed by the end of the fiscal year, while the potable water provision projects in Filtu, Argelle, Godie, Degehabour and Kebridehar towns would be finalized within two years, it was learnt.
