Ethiopia, Somalia Agree To Work Together For Maintenance Of Peace In East Africa

Ethiopia and Somalia had agreed to work together for the maintenance of peace and security in East African region.

Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Minister Seyoum Mesfin and Prime Minister of the Transitional Government of Somalia Ali Mohammed Gedi had held discussion here on Thursday on bilateral and regional issues.

According to Ethiopian Ambassador to Somalia, Abdul-aziz Ahmed said the Somalian delegation led by Ali came to Ethiopia with the aim of discussing ways of putting into practice the agreement providing for ensuring the mutual benefit of the peoples of the two countries signed last November.

Seyoum said in brief statement he gave after the talks that he and Ali had also exchanged views on ways of strengthening the Transitional Government of Somalia set up two years ago.

Somalian Prime Minister said on his part that his country had signed cooperation agreement with Kenya, Djibouti and Yemen with an intention of renewing its ties.

He said his visit was aimed at further enhancing the the bilateral cooperation agreement signed by the two nations.

The two officials had discussed in particular ways of bringing about sustainable peace and security in the region.
