Addis Ababa, April 05, 2025 - Prime Minister of the Transitional Government of Somalia Prof. Ali Mohamed Gedi said Ethiopia has been exerting utmost efforts in restoring peace and stability in Somalia in the spirit of neighbourhood and partnership.
At the reopening of the Somali Embassy in Addis Ababa, Prime Minister Gedi said the reopening of the embassy marks the end of the artificial misunderstanding and animosity that used to be between the two countries.
The prime minister said the re-opening of the Somali Embassy is a beginning of a new integration, good neighbourhood, and cooperation between the two countries which, he said, is the success of the leadership of the two regimes.
Somali Embassy to Ethiopia is the first reopened embassy under the auspices of the Transitional Government accredited to Ethiopia and African Union (AU), Gedi said.
The reopening of the Somali Embassy in Addis Ababa vests a vital importance and introduction of Somali into the sub-regional, regional and international community and will strengthen and develop the existing ties between the two countries, AU and other partners, the prime minister said.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs Seyoum Mesfin said on his part the reopening of the Embassy of Somalia in Addis Ababa symbolizes the closing of the dark chapter in the history of the people of Somalia.
Seyoum said the reopening of the embassy is also an expression of hope for the future of Somali and will facilitate more enhanced contact between the Transitional Government and the international community.
Ethiopia, through the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), has contributed its level best in getting where Somalia is today, he said, adding Ethiopia will remain committed toward ensuring the revitalization of Somalia.
Ethiopia has already decided to open embassy in Jowhar, the seat of the Transitional Government of Somalia, and designated an ambassador to Somalia, Seyoum said.
