Somali state offering capacity building training to prosecutors
Jijiga, June 23, 2024 (WIC) - The Somali state General Prosecutor and Justice Affairs Bureau said it is offering capacity building training that could help in ensuring the supremacy of law to prosecutors.
Bureau Head Abdulaziz Ahmed told WIC today that a one-month training has been given here to more than 70 prosecutors drawn from 52 woredas of the state.
Abdulaziz said the training aims at raising the awareness of the prosecutors on documentation of evidences, filing charges, criminal code and penal code in a bid to enable them deliver efficient services.
The Head stated that most of the prosecutors in the state used to work without proper training due to shortage of trained personnel in the field, adding that some 60 individuals have graduated with diploma from Haramaya University in the summer in-service programme in an effort to reduce the problem.
In addition to the training, valuable experiences were drawn from legal professionals of Oromia, Amhara, Tigray, Afar and SNNP states following visits to the regions this fiscal year, Abdulaziz said.
Awareness training are also being offered to pastoralists in the state with a view to helping them exercise their rights and obligations, the Head concluded.
