Federal government to augment assistance in dev't endeavors in Somali State
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said the Government would strengthen its assistance in the efforts the people in the Somali State have deployed to accelerating development.
Addisu Legesse made the pledge here on Saturday at the opening of consultations on the State's five-year strategic plan, which is the first of its kind ever to be drafted by the State government.
Addisu said the strategic planning would guide the activities geared towards extricating the pastoralist community from poverty and towards registering rapid development. He said the strategic plan would best be realized through the active participation of scholars, civil servants, pastoralists and other stakeholders in the State.
The deputy prime minister assured the regional government of the federal government's readiness to carry on with its support in the implementation of the strategic plan.
Chief of the Somali State Abdulahi Hassen on the occasion called for coordinated and all-out efforts for the realization of the plan, which he said, would change the lives of the pastoralists for the better.
He said more than five billion Birr has been earmarked for the implementation of the strategic plan, which he described as being the first of its kind in the history of the pastoralist community there.
He said the strategic plan would be hugely useful to sustaining the gainst the people in the State have brought about over the past three years in the political, economic and social development fields.
Senior officials of the federal government, representatives of regional governments and officials of the Somali State government have attended the consultation meeting.
