Jijjiga: Boarding school accommodating 400 to go operational next academic year in Somali state
A boarding school under construction with an outlay of 20 million birr in Kebri Dahar zone of Somali state will go operational next academic year, the regional Education Bureau disclosed.
Planning and Programming Department Head with the Bureau, Tilahun Zewde, said the school built in Shigosh town to benefit children of pastoralists is nearing completion.
He added that following the recommendation of the technical committee established six months ago the cabinet of the regional government has approved the 6.2 million birr budget requested to make the school go operational.
The budget will be channeled towards minor rehabilitation works, construction of fence, procurement of educational materials, food, health services and administrative purposes.
The Bureau has also assigned 16 teachers and nine administrative staff. Some 400 children of pastoralists who had no access to education will get enrolled from grades one to four in the middle of September,according to Tilahun.
He further said alternative and basic education services are being prompted to raise the primary education coverage of the region and added that the launching of the school will play a significant role in the efforts to extend education for all.
