Addis Ababa: Lasting peace, stability in Somalia crucial for overall security of the Horn
The Ministry of Information said the prevalence of peace and stability in Somalia immensely contributes to ensuring peace and stability in East Africa.
In a weekly statement it issued yesterday, the Ministry said the international community, the African Union, the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development and other stakeholders are striving to ensure sustainable peace and stability in Somalia.
There are, however, some forces that are engaged in a mission of terrorism and anti-peace activities, the statement said. One of these is Eritrea, as has been disclosed by the Somali force, which has currently control over Mogadishu.
According to this force, the statement said, the Eritrean government is actively supporting the al-Ithad and al-Qaeda extremist leaders who oppose the widely accepted and recognized Transitional Federal Government of Somalia.
The statement said, if there is anyone who is reluctant to support peace and stability in Somalia, it is only the Eritrean government that is trying to disturb the region by allying itself with extremist elements.
The statement said, in order to consolidate sustainable peace in Somalia, all those with goodwill for its people should back the Transitional Federal Government in that country.
