The 11-member new interim administration has assumed office as of 7 August 2006, the Office said, adding the seven members of the outgoing administration have honorably been discharged after accomplishing their duties.
The Prime Minister appointed Abdulaziz Mohammed as Mayor and Ahmed Mohammed Buh as Deputy Mayor of the new interim administration.
The Office also said Harbi Buh, Biftu Mohammed, Ibrahim Yesuf, Hamza Mohammed, Fuad Mohammed Hassen, Mohammed Amin Omer, Misrak Worku, Dr. Tsigereda Kifle and Ketema Tesema were appointed as cabinet members of the new interim administration.
Public Mobilization and Participation Advisor with the Prime Minister's Office, Abay Tsehaye told Ethiopian News Agency on Saturday that the outgoing cabinet has efficiently discharged its duties and responsibilities during its term in office.
The new officials are expected to undertake preparation for the coming election and successfully execute on-going activities geared toward ensuring rapid development and good governance in the town, Abay said.
Abay said the Federal government appointed the new cabinet as per the agreement reached after close consultations held in July with the ruling parties administering the Oromia and Somali Regional Administrations as well as with natives of the town.
Abay recalled the decision made earlier for the Dire Dawa town to be administered by Charter under the auspices of the Federal Government until its case gets a lasting political solution.
