Chief Administrator of Somali state, Abdulahi Hassen, said the regional government would undertake social services that would help improve the livelihood of the people during the current budget year.
Of the total 712 million birr approved for the fiscal year, the lion's share would go to expand the social service delivery system, improve quality of services ,mitigate food insecurity and upgrade the living standard of the people,he said.
Extensive capacity building activities were carried out to reinforce the recently implemented decentralized administration, Adulahi said ,adding that over 51 percent of the total budget would be administered by woredas for the first time to better implement the development and good governance activities planned for the period.
Preparations were finalized to make operational social service rendering institutions by deploying manpower and furnishing facilities, besides undertaking new construction works,according to Abdulahi.
As a result,the Chief noted that the health coverage of the state would reach 40 percent from the existing 23 percent, primary education coverage 29 percent from 23 percent , and potable water provision to 25 percent from 19 percent.
A technical committee led by the Chief Administrator has started work to put in place integrated health, education,potable water and other infrastructure for pastoralists that have begun sedentary life and for those interested to start the new life style.
Sites for construction of modern abattoirs were also prepared near Jijjiga town so that the inhabitants of the state would access dependable market as their livelihood is mainly dependant on animal resources,he stated.
The state government has embarked upon a stage where it can implement development, good governance by utilizing experiences gained from the country and abroad, Abdulahi pointed out.
